Norilsk Nickel included on government's strategic enterprises list 29th December 2008
Nickel and palladium producer Norilsk Nickel has been included on a list of companies which could qualify for aid from the Russian government in the wake of the global financial crisis, it has been revealed.
An inventory of 295 companies has been put together by the government, all of which are seen as being strategically integral to the growth of the Russian economy.
However, it has been emphasised that the list is not complete and those on it are still not necessarily guaranteed financial assistance should they require it.
"The main objective... is supporting their stability using not only credit instruments but other measures," the government said on its www.government.ru website, according to Reuters.
"Besides, if it is needed, the government will (act to) minimise negative social and economic consequences of the closure of these enterprises."
Other companies on the list include Aeroflot and Gazprom.
Norilsk Nickel recently announced the appointment of Alexander Voloshin as its new chairman.
