No production cut at major LCD maker 19th June 2006
Samsung, one of the world's largest makers of liquid crystal displays (LCD), has said it has no plans to cut production at the moment.
Some industry experts had suggested that production from the major producers would have to be cut to avoid a market glut, but an executive from Samsung sad that inventory levels remained normal.
"Our inventory level is normal at about one week plus for monitors. There is no inventory for TV panels, as we are trying to fulfil all the orders from customers," Yeongduk Cho, vice president of Samsung's LCD division, told the Wall Street Journal.
"We have no plans to cut our production level even if others are doing so."
Other major producers have raised inventory concerns which could affect production levels. LG.Philips LCD said that its inventory of flat screen panels had increased to about four weeks and is reviewing its total capacity plans for the rest of the year.
AU Optronics said it has acted to cut production of LCDs.
Platinum and platinum alloys are used in LCD glass construction, as platinum's high melting point, strength and resistance to corrosion allow it to withstand the glass production process.
