Nkwe Platinum targets 1m platinum ounces per year 20th September 2007
Nkwe Platinum has announced plans to deliver one million ounces of platinum group metals (pgms) by 2015.
Managing Director Maredi Mphahlele has said that the platinum junior is planning to boost production at its properties on the Bushveld complex to reach the target within ten years.
According to Mr Mphahlele, Nkwe Platinum will put its production through its own refinery and smelter.
Nkwe Platinum is aiming to complete a bankable feasibility study to build two mines at the Bushveld operation, which would be completed by 2009, with construction beginning the following year and being completed by 2015.
However, speaking to Mining Weekly, Mr Mphahlele said Nkwe Platinum's exploration programme has had to be delayed by three months following a drilling equipment shortage. The setback has resulted in the company putting back its plans to list on London's Aim and the JSE in South Africa, Mr Mphahlele said.
The mining organisation had hoped to list on both exchanges by September, but Mr Mphahlele did not give any new target date for this move.
