Nkwe Platinum's future depends on Anglo Platinum

The future is bright for Nkwe Platinum, according to the company - provided it can agree a deal with Anglo Platinum over five disputed farms.

The company has issued a bullish outlook for the future, aiming to become a million-ounce-per-year platinum producer by the middle of this year.

However, the firm has admitted that such predictions are dependent upon Nkwe and its partner Genorah resolving its legal battle with Anglo over the rights of ownership of the five farms, situated on the western limb of the Bushveld complex.

Speaking to MiningMX in an interview, Nkwe's Managing Director Maredi Mphahlele said that the company would defend its claim to the properties and is keen to get the matter in front of the South African courts.

"This is a huge test case for us, empowerment in South Africa and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act," Mr Mphahlele added.
