A leading fuel cell market intelligence provider has launched a new report covering the development of the sector in South Africa, it was confirmed on Wednesday (6th January).

The country is currently in the embryonic stages of immersing itself in the technology, but the government has launched a new Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Strategy.

As a result, Fuel Cell Today decided to compile a study into the considerable potential for fuel cell development in South Africa and how it is likely to progress over the next five years.

"We classified South Africa as a region with the potential for large-scale fuel cell adoption over the medium term in our 2009 Industry Review, Fuel Cells: Emerging Markets," author Dr Kerry-Ann Adamson told fuelcelltoday.com.

"South Africa is now also emerging as a potential location for fuel cell manufacturing."

The syndicated version of the report explores the possible advances in relation to legislative drivers and barriers, while also addressing the landscape in key adoption markets.

Anyone interested in viewing a free summary version of the study can visit Fuel Cell Today's website.

South Africa currently provides approximately three-quarters of the world's supplies of platinum, a metal which is used in fuel cells.
