New record for fuel cell vehicle 19th September 2007

Formula Zero has announced that a new speed record has been achieved by a fuel cell vehicle.

The official international FIA 1/8 mile record for fuel cell vehicles was beaten by 0.3 seconds by Formula Zero driver, Bo Ridder.

Setting a time of 11.591 seconds, the record represents another milestone in the continued development of fuel cell vehicles, by demonstrating that fuel cell technology can deliver a fast means of transport.

The achievement, carried out in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, was a prelude to the Formula Zero Championship Grand Prix, which is to be hosted in the city in 2008 and is aimed at promoting fuel cell technology to the world.

To celebrate the breaking of the record, Rotterdam politician Mark Harbers drank the kart's exhaust water to demonstrate how clean fuel cell technology is.
