New platinum medical apparatus manufacturer created 18th August 2006

US biomedical firm Avery Biomedical Devices today announced the formation of its subsidiary specialising in the manufacture of platinum devices for the medical and biomedical industries.

The recently formed unit is called ABD Custom and it will specialise in the manufacture of high quality platinum contact electrodes for research projects, clinical trials and commercially distributed medical devices.

The new unit is capable of producing both proprietary platinum products for individual clients, as well as offering its own cuff and button style electrode configurations.

ABD Custom chief executive Linda Towler said: "This is a significant first step in augmenting the growth of ABD through its manufacturing operations."

ABD makes breathing pacemakers, technically known as implanted phrenic nerve stimulators, which can be used in the treatment of quadriplegia and sleep apnea.
