New platinum chromium stent 'meets safety and effectiveness standards' 5th April 2011
A new platinum chromium coronary stent system is as safe and effective as other drug-eluting stents, trials have shown.
Boston Scientific Corporation announced 12-month results from tests comparing the safety and effectiveness of the PROMUS Element Everolimus-Eluting Platinum Chromium Coronary Stent System to the PROMUS Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent System.
The trial showed that the new PROMUS Element Stent is comparable to the PROMUS Stent in treating new coronary artery lesions, while also delivering a procedural benefit of reduced rates of unplanned stenting.
Results of the tests were published in the online version of the Journal of American College of Cardiology and presented by Dr Gregg W Stone from Columbia University Medical Center at the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Sessions.
"The PROMUS Element Platinum Chromium Stent met the primary non-inferiority endpoint of target lesion failure at one year compared to the PROMUS Stent while demonstrating excellent safety and effectiveness with low rates of cardiac death, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis and revascularization," said Dr Stone.
