A new family of platinum-catalysed liquid silicone rubbers were introduced at an exhibition in Shanghai this week.

Designed by Momentive Performance Materials, the LSR7000 products can be used in niche electronic applications, such as light guides and optical lenses.

The company explained at the Chinaplas 2010 event, which took place between 19th and 22nd April, that the rubbers offer "high optical transparency and excellent physical stability".

As a result, they can also be useful for a range of consumer, healthcare and automotive applications, such as diving masks, sensor systems, endoscopic devices, catheters and respiratory components.

Momentive Performance Materials also used the trade show to exhibit its Silplus elastomer series, offered across three platforms and differing hardness, and its StatSil platform of anti-microbial products.

"These exciting new silicone elastomer products continue our rich, blended 70-year heritage of innovation, market firsts and deep expertise," said Holger Albrecht, the company's Global Marketing Director of Elastomers.

"The new Silplus line gives us one truly global platform, enhancing strategic and performance advantages for our customers, while the StatSil platform can help reduce critical risks and costs across the global healthcare system."

Momentive also manufactures quartz, specialty ceramics and crystal products for used in a range of high-technology industries.
