New Jersey advocates green technologies 27th September 2005

People in New Jersey are to be encouraged to invest in new technologies such as fuel cells to provide their homes with clean, green energy.

The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is looking to promote the use of fuel cells and other green technologies and believes that there are plenty of people in the community who would be willing to pay a little extra each month to ensure that they are helping the environment.

"The idea is to get you to look at a bill insert," explained Lance Miller, the BPU's chief of staff, at the New Jersey Clean Energy Conference.

According to NorthJersey.com, the BPU is looking to prick the conscience of the public and change their attitude, so that they are willing to pay the extra to do their part for the environment.

If the scheme proves successful, it could be extended across the US, potentially having a major impact on demand for fuel cells in the country.

That would in turn ensure that the development of fuel cells does not lose impetus because demand will require the technology to become more user-friendly and more available to the public at large.
