New Indo-Canadian fuel cell partnership founded 14th April 2005
A fuel cell partnership is to be piloted in India between Indian car company Reva Electric and Canadian company Hydrogenics.
Reva will use its electric vehicle technology to develop hydrogen fuel cell cars with fuel cell stacks to be supplied by Hydrogenics.
Two fuel cell cars will be developed in the first phase, to be followed by a fleet of ten to 20 hydrogen-powered cars.
The project is reportedly aimed at promoting eco-tourism in India and will be used for hydrogen clean technology projects in New Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Reva, which unveiled its first fuel cell prototype last year, was created in 1994 as a joint venture between Indian and US companies to manufacture environmentally-friendly and cost-effective electric vehicles.
The company already markets an electric car, sold under brand name Reva in India and G-Wiz in the UK and Malta. It is also currently being test-marketed in the US, Japan, Sri Lanka, Cyprus and Norway.
