New diesel working with technology to reduce emissions 10th October 2006
A new type of diesel is to be launched in the US which will work with new technology to reduce the amount of emissions produced by diesel vehicles.
Eight million trucks and buses across the US will begin using a new, ultra-low sulphur fuel, which is 97 per cent cleaner than the previous formulation.
In conjunction with innovative engine technology, the new diesel will be able to dramatically reduce emissions.
"Combining the new fuel with cleaner and more energy-efficient engines will mean healthier air and help reduce our dependence on oil," commented Richard Kassel, head of the Natural Resources Defense Council's clean fuels and vehicles unit.
The move could result in an increasing number of vehicles being fitted with the latest clean energy technology to ensure that the new type of diesel is providing as little emissions as possible.
Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the Diesel Technology Forum, stated: "With the switch to cleaner fuel, consumers will see more fuel-efficient diesel cars, pick-ups and SUVs on showroom floors in the years to come."
