Natalie Portman displays eco-friendly platinum engagement ring 28th January 2011
Black Swan star Natalie Portman showed off her platinum and diamond engagement ring as she picked up her Desert Palm Achievement Award at the weekend's Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Appropriately for the actress, who is famously a strict vegan, everything about the ring is eco-friendly, InStyle reports.
The centre stone is a mine-cut antique, the surrounding pave diamonds are guaranteed to be conflict-free and the platinum is recycled.
Fiance Benjamin Millepied had the band specially made by jewellery designer Jamie Wolf, told the magazine that everything about it had to "speak to things that are important to Natalie".
"Ben was exceptionally thoughtful and dedicated and patient to make sure we had everything right," she added.
Each year, approximately half of the platinum used globally by users of the metal comes from sources of recycled platinum, underlining the sustainable nature of platinum and all the industries which use the metal, including jewellery.
