More fuel cell vehicles set to arrive 12th September 2006
Fuel cell vehicles are becoming increasingly popular as more companies look to develop them.
As the Paris Motor Show draws near, a number of companies are expected to introduce fuel cell concept cars and the latest manufacturer to state its intentions to launch its clean energy vehicle at the show is Peugeot.
The company is already talking up its concept car as a potential future 207 model. The 207 EPURE vehicle uses an electric motor together with the company's GENEPAC experimental fuel cell, which has been created through a partnership with the French Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).
This electric-fuel cell combination provides the car with a 218 mile range, as well as a maximum speed of 81 mph.
Meanwhile, in the US, General Motors (GM) has revealed what it claims to be the most technologically advanced fuel cell car ever developed. With a range of 300 miles and a performance boasting 0-60 mph in just ten seconds, the Chevrolet Sequel represents yet another step forward in the development of fuel cells.
"Sequel fundamentally changes the DNA of today's automobiles, exchanging an internal combustion engine, petroleum and mechanical systems for fuel cell propulsion, hydrogen and electrical systems," claims GM vice president Larry Burns.
The car was first introduced as a concept last year, but now GM is looking to tap into the growing demand for low-emissions vehicles by making it widely available to the public.
