Low emissions VW Polo is road-tax exempt in UK 25th July 2007
The new diesel-powered Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion is to be exempt from road tax in the UK, owing to its low carbon emissions.
Volkswagen's diesel-powered car emits just 99 grams per kilometre of CO2, making it by some margin the most environmentally-friendly car currently available and putting it in the tax-exempt Band A road tax category.
Set to go on sale in the UK in October, the car achieves its superior performance through the use of an efficient 1.4-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel engine with intercooler and the facility to recirculate gas.
Meanwhile, the incorporation of a diesel particulate filter also cuts down emissions.
The Bluemotion's credentials are further supported by its fuel efficiency, with a five-speed gearbox and aerodynamic design enabling it to achieve 74.3 miles to the gallon.
However, an upgrade of the Bluemotion, which adds features such as air-conditioning and rain sensing wipers, mean that the car manages 70.6 miles to the gallon and means owners will be charged road tax.
