Lonmin shares buoyed by ongoing bid speculation 14th March 2006

Shares in the mining company Lonmin were up again today as rumours of a potential buyout continued to circulate.

On Friday of last week Polyus Gold, a subsidiary of Norlisk Nickel, was linked with a possible bid.

While there has been no official announcement, speculation continued today lifting Lonmin shares.

Lonmin, which has interests in pgm and gold, was the subject of separate takeover rumours last month, but talks with an unnamed company quickly broke down.

It is not yet known if Polyus Gold is a new suitor or whether it is just coming back for a second bite of the cherry.

Analysts are divided with some suggesting that a bid is imminent, while others believe the share price is being driven up by belated buying following Friday's speculation.
