Lonmin resolves strike 17th August 2004

Lonmin has confirmed that the unofficial strike by miners at the Karee mine in the North West Province of South Africa has been resolved.

In a statement released today the platinum miner said that the action by miners at shaft three of its South African Karee mine that began on 13 August 2004 had ended, and stressed that output remained intact.

"The strike was over disciplinary matters and had not been sanctioned by the relevant trade unions, who worked with the company to end the strike. Production has not been affected," the company declared.

Lonmin has mines in the Marikana district to the east of the town of Rustenburg in the North West Province of South Africa, and a refinery situated in Brakpan in Gauteng Province.
