Lonmin Platinum looks to reorganise 23rd November 2007

Lonmin Platinum is planning a major reorganisation of its processes in 2008 in an effort to provide greater platinum group metal (pgm) production and some consolidation in the market.

The company has suffered a difficult 12 months, with a number of setbacks including strike action and reduced recoveries from its concentrators, but Lonmin's Chief Executive Brad Mills is looking for a brighter 2008.

He stated that the company has already taken a number of steps to tackle the various problems faced by the company, Mining Weekly reports, with a strengthened senior management team now looking to provide some stability and leadership over the months ahead.

Mr Mills also explained that Lonmin has developed a new model for the running of the concentrators, which, he said, would "allow us to improve recoveries as we manage more effectively the feed and mix across our eight concentrators".

Lonmin suffered what Mr Mills himself described as a "significant shortfall" in pgm production during 2007 compared with the company's expectations.
