Lonmin finalises wage deal 21st December 2011

Platinum group metals miner Lonmin has finalised outstanding wage negotiations with unions.

The firm said it has agreed a one-year wage deal with the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union.

The agreement provides for an eight per cent increase for the union's members at the Precious Metals Refinery.

Lonmin said they will receive an "across the board increase" of eight per cent, effective October 1st 2011.

It follows last week's announcement of a wage agreement which was reached with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

In addition, Lonmin said a two-year agreement has been reached with a Joint Bargaining Forum representing all Marikana employees in job grades B to CU.

This deal entails increases of between 6.5 per cent and eight per cent, again effective October 1st 2011.

In a statement, Lonmin said: "These increases will apply for both years of the agreement, which represents the last of the negotiations."

The firm's executive vice-president for human capital and external affairs, Barnard Mokwena, said: "We are pleased that these agreements are being concluded before the Christmas break which will allow all employees to enjoy a well-deserved holiday break with their families."
