Lonmin has announced that Chris Sheppard is to take over as the platinum mining firm's Executive Vice President for Mining.

Mr Sheppard is currently Head of Mining Technical Services at the world's number one platinum miner, Anglo Platinum, but he will move to take up his new position with Lonmin on October 3rd this year.

Welcoming the appointment, Lonmin Chief Executive Brad Mills said: "We are delighted to welcome Chris to Lonmin. His expertise and experience will make him a valuable addition to the Lonmin team as we continue to develop both our conventional and mechanised mining operations."

Mr Sheppard has in the past held the position of General Manager of the Rustenburg mines while at Anglo Platinum, and has also worked at AngloGold prior to joining Anglo Platinum in 2001.
