Lonmin appoints new CEO 29th September 2008
Lonmin has today (29th September) announced that it has appointed Ian Farmer as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Farmer, 46, was appointed as a director in 2001 following six years as Finance Director in South Africa and has since overseen its business development in his role as Chief Strategic Officer.
The world's third-largest producer of platinum has also confirmed that Mr Farmer will take up his role with immediate effect, replacing former incumbent Brad Mills, who stepped down by mutual consent.
Commenting on the news, Chairman Sir John Craven said: "We are pleased that Ian has become our new Chief Executive Officer. He brings with him many years of experience of the platinum industry, a detailed knowledge of Lonmin and significant experience within South Africa.
"As one of his immediate priorities, Ian will lead a review of the group's operations focused on improving performance and maximising value for Lonmin shareholders from our unique and highly attractive long-term assets."
Sir John also pointed that despite the imminent announcement regarding the proposed takeover by Xstrata, the company will continue to act in the best interests of its shareholders.
