Eight jewellery designers have been honoured at a prestigious annual awards ceremony, it has been confirmed.

Lonmin, which is the world's third-largest platinum producer, held the eighth instalment of its Design Innovation Awards recently after picking the winning entries.

In the 'Emerging Designers' category - which is for jewellers with less than five years' commercial experience - Alexander Davis, Haruko Horikawa, Fangfang Qiao and Katie Rowland were selected.

Meanwhile, John Bradley, James Powell, Luke Rose and Miranda Wallis triumphed in the 'Established Designers' category, for those who have been in the business for more than five years.

A distinguished panel of judges, including Johnson Matthey's Jo Trivedi, eventually chose the eight designers' ideas because they are "striking, original and have the desired 'wow' factor".

The winners will now manufacture their respective pieces of jewellery - which were submitted as drawings - and display them at the International Jewellery London event at Earls Court between 5th and 8th September.

In addition, the designs will be worn be models at a party and awards ceremony at the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion on 6th September.

Lonmin currently has a number of mining operations in the platinum-rich Bushveld Complex in South Africa.
