LCD televisions on the rise in India 22nd September 2008
Indian imports of LCD televisions, whose screens are manufactured using platinum, will outstrip those of CRT televisions by 2012, a new report has claimed.
At present, the television market in the country is projected to be 13 million units in 2008, with 92.9 per cent accounted for by CRT sets and just 6.6 per cent by LCD sets.
However, the study, entitled 'India TV Market: TV's Emerging Land of Opportunity', has claimed that an LCD boom is imminent, with year-on-year growth expected to be above 100 per cent for each of the next five years.
The predicted rapid increase is being based on a combination of greater buying power, the full switch to digital broadcasting and increased awareness and affordability of flat-screen models.
The report also claimed that 23 million Indians will purchase an LCD television in the next five years, with the upper-middle classes accounting for the majority of that figure.
