LCD television industry has 'positive outlook' for 2009 28th November 2008
A leading market research firm has claimed today (November 28th) that it expects shipments of the LCD televisions to continue to rise over the course of 2009.
iSuppli is forecasting that worldwide shipments will total 93.4 million units for 2008 and 112.6 million for next year - annual rises of 18.9 per cent and 20.9 per cent respectively.
Although the company believes that the economic downturn has had an effect on the industry - as with most others - it believes that a number of factors are still working in its favour.
Principal Television Systems Analyst Riddhi Patel said: "LCD TV shipments will continue to rise due to strong consumer interest and declining Average Selling Prices (ASPs) for sets.
"Furthermore, iSuppli expects the major brands' marketing and promotional efforts will fuel demand."
The televisions - whose screens are manufactured using platinum - are now retailing in some places for $400 for a 32-inch set or $600-$700 for a 40/42-inch set, which should boost consumer demand.
The company also expressed its belief that the resurgence will truly kick in during the third quarter of 2009.
