LCD sales 'to triple in a year' 19th January 2006
It has been suggested that the rising use of LCD panels in a variety of products will cause LCD glass demand to triple by 2007.
James Flaws, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Corning, has claimed that the use of LCD screens in products such as televisions, computers and PDAs will help to ramp up demand for the panels over the coming months.
Speaking at the Needham Investment conference, Mr Flaws stated: "Glass is on a 41 per cent compound annual growth rate between 2004 and 2007."
Despite suggestions from some analysts in the latter stages of 2005 that the increased production capacity at a number of top LCD manufacturers, including Corning, would result in a glut in the market and a slump in the LCD sector, companies are continuing to expand at a fast pace as demand for LCD panels shows little sign of abating.
A number of companies are continuing to expand their operations and Corning's own president, Eugene A Verdon Jr, has stated that he expects Taiwan to become the world's largest LCD screen producer by the end of 2006 as a number of companies, including Corning and AU Optronics, continue to expand their operations in the country.
