Johnson Matthey has introduced a full range of scavenging technologies, allowing businesses to extract and recover metal that would otherwise go to waste.

Smopex, a fibrous metal scavenger, enables selective recovery of precious metal dissolved in a solution even at low concentrations, as well as being easier to handle than traditional resin technology.

Chemical functionality grafted onto the surface of the fibre allows Smopex to recover metals, while a number of other fibre mixes are available for more specific tasks.

Once the initial process is complete, metal values can be recovered from Smopex either by fuming or elution, and loaded Smopex can be returned to Johnson Matthey for final recovery in complete security.

The metal can be resupplied as fresh catalyst, held in account, sold at market value or simply returned as physical metal.

Johnson Matthey also offers a screening service to allow customers to gauge how much they will benefit from adopting scavenging technologies such as Smopex.
