Johnson Matthey launches US platinum jewellery design competition 17th September 2010
Platinum jewellery designers in the US are being encouraged to enter a new competition devised by Johnson Matthey.
The leading supplier of semi-fabricated platinum pieces in the country has unveiled the Johnson Matthey Sustainable Design Award through its New York division.
Designers with less than five years' experience - and postgraduates or final year students - can submit drawings or images of their new wristwear, neckwear, earrings or rings.
The designs must be innovative and sustainable, while also offering commercial viability, and a panel of respected judges will pick out three winners.
"Targeted at emerging designers who are looking to begin building their portfolio in platinum, the aims of the award are to help sustain the design and manufacture of platinum jewellery in America," said Johnson Matthey.
The winners, who will be announced at an exclusive invitation-only awards party during the MSJA Expo NY in March 2011, will receive a $1,000 grant towards the design of their entries.
In addition, they will be given a place on Platinum Guild International's website and Editor's Day, marketing photos and a host of other prizes worth a combined $30,000.
Anyone interested in participating should send their name, contact information, company details, number of years in the industry, drawing/photos (in pdf format) and a statement describing the design to sustainabledesign@jmusa.com.
The closing date for entries is 25th November, with the judging process taking place in December and the winners being announced by Christmas.
