Johnson Matthey increases micromachining capacity 7th February 2011
Johnson Matthey has completed a major expansion that increases the company's capacity for fine-hole micromachining of medical component parts fivefold.
Machining holes as small as 0.003 inches in diameter with no burrs or imperfections, Johnson Matthey's expansion will benefit companies in advanced medical sectors, such as those requiring electrophysiology catheters with irrigated tips.
The technology is sufficient to produce surface finishes down to five microns, while minimising tool marks and dents.
"Our continued investment in technology and innovation is providing enhanced capabilities that meet the supply chain expectations and high quality standards of the medical device industry," said Brian Woodward, general manager of Johnson Matthey.
The company will be exhibiting at the forthcoming Medical Device Manufacturing trade show in Anaheim, California between February 8th and the 10th.
In November, Johnson Matthey announced the completion of its acquisition of Intercat, Inc, a supplier of fluid catalytic cracking additives and addition systems for the petroleum refining industry.
