Johnson Matthey completes San Diego facility expansion 20th October 2009
Johnson Matthey Medical announced today (20th October) that the expansion of its precision micro-machining facility in San Diego has now been completed.
The company decided to increase manufacturing space at the site by 7,000 square feet in order to incorporate its former facility in Temecula, where similar operations had been carried out.
General Manager Brian Woodward explained that the upgrade will allow the firm to continue its quest to deliver top-quality platinum-based micro-components.
"Quality is the primary focus for Johnson Matthey; it is of ultimate importance to the medical device industry and we take it very seriously," he said.
"We re-certified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard and we continue responding to the medical device supplier guidelines established by the Global Harmonised Task Force."
The extra space will allow the San Diego facility to increase production capacity, while also improving the efficiency of its engineering and development centre.
Furthermore, the multi-million-dollar project will reduce the amount of electricity and waste disposal generated by the site, in line with the firm's corporate sustainability objectives.
Johnson Matthey Medical also revealed that three new shifts will be added and that the ISO 14001 certification - an environmental management system - is set to be completed by the end of the year.
