Graff develops own watch movement (16/03/10)

Graff has announced that it will create five exclusive platinum and 34-carat diamond watches which feature new technology unveiled at the recent BaselWorld show.

The 'Tourbillon' timepieces will boast 24 diamonds on their faceted bezels, while the balance weight, bridge and rotor will all be set with baguette diamonds.

In addition, the face will contain a mosaic design of trapeze and baguette diamonds and baguette emeralds, Professional Jeweller reports.

The watches are also set to feature the company's own movement, dubbed Calibre 1, which beats at 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of 50 hours.

MJSA Announces Thinking Ahead and Vision Awards Winners (29/03/10)

Two platinum pieces were among the jewellery designs to be honoured at the recent Vision and Thinking Ahead Awards in New York.

James W Currens, of JW Currens, picked up second place in the Visionary Technical Solution category for his 'Star Dreamer Pendant', which was manufacturing using photonics and ultra-violet curing.

The pendant features platinum and 96 carats of rock crystal, 2.5 carats of rose-cut diamonds, 4.7 carats of baguette diamonds and 2.26 carats of white diamond melee.

Meanwhile, Julia Behrends, of Boston-based jeweller Julia Behrends Design, finished second in the 'Laser Distinction' category at the ceremony.

Her ring design, entitled 'Twist', contains a twisting prong and a rotating 'rondelle' which is decorated in yellow diamonds and is capable of 360-degree movement.

The gemstone in the centre of the piece is a 9.52-carat round lime citrine with a unique concave-faceted cut, which is set in platinum.

Held by Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America, the Vision and Thinking Ahead Awards took place at the MJSA Expo New York between 14th and 16th March.

DWTS' Chad Ochocinco Surprises Cheryl Burke With Diamond Ring (06/04/10)

Chad Ochocinco has presented 'Dancing with the Stars' partner Cheryl Burke with a $10,000 platinum ring, sparking rumours that the pair are engaged.

Burke was seen with the rock on her ring finger after the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver gave it to her as an appreciation of her dance lessons for the hit show.

"She has to deal with me nine hours a day. It's like a marriage, so why not give marriage gifts? I don't spend time with anyone like this - ever!" Ochocinco told US magazine.

Burke, 25, revealed that Ochocinco handed over the ring on one knee and refused to rule out speculation that they have agreed to tie the knot.

Meanwhile, a number of celebrities have been revealing their love for platinum jewellery at red-carpet events in recent weeks.

Actress Teri Hatcher selected a pair of earrings, rings and a bracelet - all set in platinum - for her appearance at the '24th Genesis Awards' event in Los Angeles on 20th March.

Ariel Winter, of 'Modern Family' fame, picked a pair of platinum and diamond hoops, designed by Erica Courtney, for the Los Angeles premiere of 'The Last Song' on 25th March.

PLATINUM jewelry at Kids' Choice Awards (28/03/10)

Winter was also one of several stars sporting platinum jewellery at the 'Nickelodeon's 23rd Annual Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on 27th March.

The 11-year-old, who is also known for her portrayal of Ellie Layton in 'One Missed Call', showed off a platinum necklace with white and black diamonds, and platinum hoops.

R&B sensation Rihanna wore long layers of platinum chains with diamonds and pearls, a large platinum and diamond cross, and diamond stud earrings set in platinum.

'Drake and Josh' star Miranda Cosgrove wore a large pink topaz and diamond star cocktail ring, and stacks of diamond bracelets - all set in platinum.

Jada Pinkett-Smith was also present at the event and sported turquoise, diamond and pearl crosses, diamond leaf earrings and three diamond cocktails rings, also all set in platinum.
