Jeweller reports strong international sales 31st May 2006

Luxury jeweller Tiffany and Co, which has a number of platinum ranges for men and women, has said that strong international sales have helped it to post better than expected quarterly earnings.

According to Reuters, net sales rose by six per cent to $539.2 during the quarter, up from $509.9 a year ago.

The New York-based company said that despite the fact US retail sales had been disappointing, up just two per cent during the quarter, international sales had shown a real increase in demand.

They saw a 13 per cent increase in terms of US dollars.

Earlier this month Tiffany launched a new line of platinum jewellery in the city of Dubai.

Along with its partner Damas, it launched the collections by innovative designer Elsa Peretti in the city during a presentation at its store in Mall of the Emirates.

It has also opened a new boutique in Paris over the past year, at the Galeries Lafayette.
