Japanese jeweller launches new platinum bridal line 22nd March 2006
Japanese firm Citizen Jewelry has established a new platinum line, as consumers in the Far East continue to warm to the precious metal.
Platts reports the jeweller will launch "acqua c.v.", or acqua curve, featuring 7-10 gram engagement rings this week.
The bridal jewellery is heavier than traditional pieces, with Citizen looking to secure annual sales of 130 million yen from the distinctive line.
Citizen Jewelry is seeking to gain a foothold in the increasingly prominent bridal jewellery market, with platinum proving increasingly popular with consumers.
Citizen estimates that 60 per cent of Japanese bridal rings are made of platinum, although a spokesman said that there were constraints as fewer people were choosing to get married.
PGI International says that bridal jewellery now accounts for 30 per cent of all platinum demand in Japan.
