India ready to roll out fuel efficient cars 30th November 2005

India has revealed that its first wave of fuel efficient cars will be rolling off the production line before the start of next year.

Tata Motors has announced that it is ready to start production on its new vehicles which will have petrol engines that comply to Euro IV standards for the first time.

The vehicles will be the first in India to offer compliance with the Euro IV standards on emissions controls, meaning that the company will be able to supply local cars as well as sell engines on the international market to a standard recognized and required in many countries.

Although the Euro IV regulations do not come into force in India until 2008, developing fuel efficient and cleaner engines is vital to the Indian economy as it looks to compete on the world stage, as other countries are looking to reduce their emissions at a much earlier date.

Tata Motors' exports are currently at an all-time high and the company is looking to enhance its reputation by keeping up with the increasing demand for low emissions technologies.

Tata has also announced that it is planning to establish a technical centre in the UK to look into the development of passenger cars.
