Implats strike resolved 12th October 2004
Workers at Impala Platinum are due to go back to work this evening after strike action at the platinum giant finally came to an end.
Implats, the world's second largest platinum producer, offered an eight per cent pay rise, which was accepted by the miners.
National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) representative Archie Palane said that the 12-day strike was now at an end.
"Workers have accepted the eight per cent across the board (offer). . . they will start with the night shift," he told Reuters.
Implats human resources executive Humphrey Oliphant confirmed the news, but said it remained unclear what the final cost would be for production at the firm.
Earlier this month the company said it was losing around R28 million per day - equivalent to around R336 million in total.
