Implats anticipating strong pgm production figures 11th June 2004

Impala Platinum (Implats) has said that it is anticipating better than expected results when it delivers it figures for the second half of the financial year.

Implats says that it is also encouraged by the level of platinum output, as chief executive Keith Rumble explained.

Mr Rumble said that changes to pgm prices would have an impact, and suggested a number of revisions to profit estimates and production figures issued in February.

"What's happened since then is that metal prices have been better and there's probably an upside to that statement," he told a Reuters Mining Summit in Toronto.

Full-year platinum output is expected to outstrip figures given previously of 1.9 million ounces.

"There is probably some upside to that number," Mr Rumble acknowledged.
