Impala Platinum to get 80 per cent power in 24 hours 29th January 2008
Impala Platinum will bring production at its platinum mine to normal levels by the end of the week following the arrival of additional power supplies.
A meeting between the Government, Eskom and the mining industry agreed that power availability will be restored to Impala Platinum to a level of 80 per cent within 24 hours and 90 per cent by the end of the week.
This increase would allow it to re-start productions but the company confirmed that it would also cut back its power usage by ten per cent following a request from Eskom.
The news follows comments made by Alec Erwin, Public Enterprises Minister, who said that Eskom will increase electricity to mines by up to 90 per cent by the end of this week, miningweekly reports.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mr Erwin said: "It has been a very difficult situation, but we are pleased to be able to restore a reasonable level of production by the end of the week."
