Hyundai unveils Blue2 fuel cell concept car 31st March 2011
Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest automaker, has showcased its latest products, technologies and services at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show.
The company unveiled the Blue2 concept vehicle, the company's first saloon-style Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) powered by hydrogen.
Codenamed HND-6, the Blue2 is a mid-size FCEV which the automaker claims shows a "blueprint" for future saloons.
The name Blue2 is a combination of Hyundai's sub eco-brand Blue Drive and the number 2 from the symbol for hydrogen gas.
It is powered by a fuel cell electric system that delivers 90kW of power and fuel economy of 34.9km per litre.
The Blue2 boasts futuristic, flowing designs and eco-friendly features, such as low-resistance tyres and alloy wheels which are designed to improve aerodynamic performance.
Steve S Yang, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai, said the company's aim is to be "the most loved", not the biggest car maker.
"We want to be a reliable partner to our customers, supporting their happiness, rather than a company that pursues its own interests," he explained.
Mr Yang added: "We will ceaselessly introduce world-class products of the best quality to overcome the difficult market environment and turn it into an opportunity, while modestly listening to the voice of the customer."
