Hydrogenics Corporation has announced an award to supply an electrolyzer for a hydrogen fuelling station in southern Germany.

The manufacturer of hydrogen generation and fuel cell products said the HySTAT-60 electrolyzer is anticipated to be delivered later this year.

It will be capable of producing up to 130kg a day of green hydrogen fuel from wind power to be used in electric fuel cell vehicles.

The firm noted that contracts like this are important, as establishing a public hydrogen infrastructure is "crucial" for the introduction of fuel cell vehicles in Europe.

"The link between renewable energy and electrolysis, as a means to generate hydrogen for transportation continues to be of interest in Europe by enabling smart grid stabilisation and energy storage capacity well beyond alternative solutions," said Daryl Wilson, Hydrogenics president and chief executive officer.

He added that Hydrogenics is already a major supplier of electrolysis-based hydrogen fuelling stations, with over 35 installations across the globe.
