Honda seeks British 'fuel cell family' 21st February 2006
Honda is looking to provide a family in Britain with the first certified fuel cell car in the country, to show that the technology is practical.
The Japanese carmaker has already successfully run a similar trial with a family in California, and says that environmentally friendly fuel cell cars exist in Japan as well.
The FCX hatchback runs on hydrogen, which is converted into electricity to power the vehicle.
A Honda spokesman told the Times: "We are the only manufacturer that has this car. There are 20 driving around, mainly in America and Japan. It is not a concept, it is a real certified car and it makes sense to bring it to Britain."
Honda has not yet confirmed that the experiment will definitely go ahead. However, if it does, the car will go to a family that uses a vehicle for getting to work, on shopping trips, and on holiday.
The family would also likely be provided with a refuelling station, perhaps Honda's home energy station.
