Honda launches fuel cell-powered FCX Clarity 19th November 2007
Honda has launched its landmark fuel cell car, the FCX Clarity, which will be available initially through a lease system to residents of California.
Under the terms of the system, Californians will be able to hire the car from next summer for a fee of $600 per month over a three-year contract.
In order to be eligible for the offer, residents must live within close proximity of one of five hydrogen filling stations in the state and must agree to drive the vehicle daily.
The new vehicle offers combined city and highway fuel economy of 68 miles per gallon, has a driving range of 270 miles, a top speed of 100mph and can go from 0-60mph in ten seconds, Honda claims.
Honda's Senior Chief Engineer Sachito Fujimoto told the Telegraph: "When you drive the FCX Clarity in town, it is such a fun car."
"It's the kind of car you want to drive more, but the only emission is water. This is a car to create history for the next 100 years."
