Harry Winston to expand 10th June 2005

Luxury jeweller Harry Winston is to expand, as part of new plans by its owner Aber Diamond Corp.

According to Canadian Press, the Toronto-based miner has a 51 per cent interest in the celebrity jeweller and wants to increase the number of stores.

It is looking to build on the current nine stores and increase it to 25.

Harry Winston reported first quarter sales of $41.6 million and has already opened two new stores since Aber bought its share in 2004.

'A brand like Harry Winston has much broader recognition than a name like Aber, including the equity marketplace,' Aber CEO, Robert Gannicott, explained.

The company is thought to be particularly keen on opening a new store in Canada, with Toronto a keen favourite.

Harry Winston offers a host of luxury platinum items including platinum cufflinks and more famously platinum wedding bands, as seen on the hands of many top celebrities.track
