Guide to FTC platinum rules published by JVC 1st July 2011
The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) has published a new guide to clarify the US Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) amendments to its rules on platinum.
Available on the JVC website, the Essential Guide to the US Trade in Platinum Jewellery explains the revised standards in easy to understand terms for manufacturers, promoters and sellers of platinum jewellery.
The publication also contains sections on legal standards for platinum, a glossary of terms, two platinum tolerance charts and a frequently asked questions section.
Cecilia Gardner, JVC president, commented: "This Essential Guide explains fairly complex FTC amendments for the marketing and stamping of products containing platinum.
"This tool gives practical guidance on how to compliantly market and describe these products."
Welcoming the news, Platinum Guild International USA president Huw Daniel said the initiative will help the jewellery industry to better understand the changes to FTC rules.
"By doing so, the JVC ensures greater clarity and peace of mind for those producing selling and buying platinum jewellery," he added.
