GM official confident over fuel cell target 19th October 2006
General Motors (GM) vice president of research and development, Larry Burns, has insisted that the company is not finding storage a problem.
Mr Burns has rejected suggestions made by the Telegraph that GM has been struggling with developing a manageable hydrogen storage facility for its fuel cell vehicles.
GM has set a target of $50 per kW for its entire fuel-cell propulsion system by 2009, so as to make the vehicles affordable to the general public. Such a cost would be the equivalent for a modern petrol engine, meaning fuel cell vehicles can become directly competitive in price with petrol vehicles.
The Telegraph had reported that such a target was in danger of being missed because of difficulties with the storage of hydrogen, but Mr Burns told the publication that this is not the case.
