Automaker Mercedes-Benz has announced record sales for October, as an increasing number of customers turn to the company's fuel efficient vehicles.

The firm has revealed that its US sales have topped 20,000, making it the best-ever October for the company in the US.

This growth has been driven by Mercedes-Benz's fuel efficient options, such as the three new diesel vehicles launched by the company during October. These vehicles have proved popular as more people look to avoid the high oil prices by switching from gasoline to diesel.

October saw the launch of Mercedes-Benz's brand new E320 BLUETEC, which is claimed to be the world's cleanest diesel vehicle engine.

The growth in demand among consumers for fuel efficient and low emissions vehicles has been seen at other automakers over the course of October, with General Motors also announcing an increase in sales during the month.
