Fuel cells gain support

Recent developments have seen fuel cells gain increasing support across Europe.

The London Hydrogen Partnership recently visited fuel cell manufacturing sites in Germany in an effort to promote use of the technology in the UK's capital and the delegates appeared impressed with what they saw.

Edward Parry, from the London Borough Energy Group, commented: "We'll certainly be putting the case for a fuel cell at one of our sites."

The group visited a number of sites, including MTU CFC Solutions' fuel cell manufacturing plant in Munich.

Meanwhile, in Holland, a recent fuel cell bus trial has been extended after the success of the initial scheme.

The pilot of fuel cell-powered buses in Amsterdam has been increased to run until January 2008 and Amsterdam Alderwoman Carolien Gehrels welcomed the move, telling peopleandplanet.net: "Fuel cell buses are the future."
