Buses converted to fuel cells (06/11/09)
Researchers at Sunderland University have teamed up with expert firms in China, Germany and the UK to convert two buses into a fuel cell, battery and capacitor setup.
The project, known as ECO2Trans, will be conducted in partnership with Shen Li High Technology, ComeSys Europe and AVID, and has received £314,000 in sponsorship from One North East.
"These vehicles will act as a test bed to evaluate novel hydrogen technologies in vehicles and will enhance the region's status as an important automotive research and development centre," said Adrian Morris from the Institute of Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice.
Fuel-cell cars begin demo run (12/11/09)
Three fuel cell-powered cars have embarked on a 1,100km journey between Tokyo and Fukuoka, the Japan Times reports.
Toyota's FCHV-adv, Nissan's X-Trail FCV and Honda's FCX Clarity were all run in an attempt to prove that they can travel as far as their petrol counterparts without the need for refuelling.
Copenhagen opens hydrogen station, unveils fuel cell vehicles (13/11/09)
A new hydrogen refuelling station and eight fuel cell vehicles have been unveiled in Copenhagen.
The Danish city is looking to become the world's first carbon-neutral capital and has stated a target of 2025 to achieve its goal.
"Today we are putting Copenhagen on the map as a champion of clean transport," said Technology and Environment Mayor Klaus Bondam.
€5 Million Secured for Hydrogen Refueling Station & Fuel Cell Vehicles in Denmark in Late 2010 (27/11/09)
Staying in Denmark, a €5 million deal to build a hydrogen refuelling station and a number of fuel cell vehicles in Holstebro in the west of the country has been agreed.
The project, known as LINK2009, should be completed towards the end of next year or at the start of 2011.
Parade of hydrogen cars energizes Copenhagen ahead of COP15 (01/12/09)
Meanwhile, a group of fuel cell and hydrogen-powered vehicles has voyaged across the Oresund Bridge, which runs between Malmo in Sweden and Copenhagen.
The parade, which was organised by Hydrogen Link Denmark, formed part of the COP15 climate change summit.
Innovative Danish technology uses methanol to make fuel cell vehicles competitive (01/12/09)
Prior to the summit, Metha Energy Solutions and Serenergy launched an electric vehicle which is powered by a high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell operating on a reformed methanol and water mix.
The vehicle has a range of 500km and can be refuelled in two minutes, while also offering 70 per cent lower emissions than its gasoline-powered counterparts.
First hybrid fuel cell bus unveiled for new fleet in Hamburg (16/11/09)
Mercedes-Benz has debuted its new Citaro FuelCELL-Hybrid bus in Hamburg , which is one of the destinations selected for its official roll-out across Europe next year.
In addition to the ten buses, the German manufacturer is set to distribute 20 of its F-CELL fuel cell cars for use in the city.
Fuel cell industry unity needed to achieve policy goals (17/11/09)
The President of the US Fuel Cell Council has called on the industry to rally round after the country reaffirmed its commitment to hydrogen fuelling technology.
In May, Energy Secretary Steven Chu recommended that funding for research in the sector should be slashed from the budget, but a $300 million injection was subsequently approved.
Now Michael Hicks has told Renewable Energy Focus that "it is not enough to simply maintain support for more or less the same old programmes".
"We also need a sense of shared enterprise, a collective understanding of fuel cells' commercial and - just as important - societal potential, and, ultimately, a reinvigorated partnership that will hasten the day when we achieve both," he added.
Air Liquide announces hydrogen filling station at Vancouver International Airport (18/11/09)
