Fuel cell refuelling station opens in S.Korea 29th August 2007
A hydrogen refuelling station is to open at Yonsei University in Seoul - the first of its kind in the South Korean capital.
The construction of the station has been ongoing from March, and is due to be completed around the middle of October, Digital Chosun Ilbo reports.
Funding for the station was provided jointly by MOCIE, the Korea Energy Management Corporation and the National RD&D Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell.
Once operational, it will produce hydrogen from naphtha, which will then be stored in a chamber from which it can be used to refuel cars.
The ongoing move towards fuel cell power has seen networks of stations established in developed countries worldwide. There are 26 operational in the US, 11 in Germany and six in Canada.
Digital Chosun Ilbo, the Korean English language newspaper, predicts that the opening of the hydrogen station "should provide momentum for Hyundai Motor and local researchers that are developing cars designed to run on hydrogen fuel cells".
