Fuel cell-powered Fine-X wows Tokyo 14th October 2005
Toyota is to unveil its concept Fine-X car at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The Fine-X is powered by a hybrid system that combines a hydrogen fuel cell with an electric motor, with the model also offering a unique approach to getting around town.
Not only is the Fine-X ideally suited for city driving with its emission-less hydrogen fuel cell technology, it is also capable of manouvering sideways as it incorporates on the spot rotation, aided by electric in-wheel motors in each of its wheels.
Other ease-of-use features include seats that move in and out of the vehicle to improve accessibility and adjustable light intensity.
Further environmental benefits are anticipated, as, during the manufacturing process, plant-based materials are used for both internal and external components.
Toyota is also showcasing its Estimas Hybrid Concept and its electrically-powered i-swing at the event, which runs from October 22nd to November 6th.
Under current regulations, all dual-fuel and alternatively-fuelled vehicles are exempt from London's daily £8 congestion charge.
