Fuel cell industry supports joint initiative 10th October 2006
The European fuel cell industry is set to support the creation of a Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) for hydrogen and fuel cell development.
It has been announced that 48 leading stakeholders from the European fuel cell sector have signed up to provide support to the new initiative, which will be aimed at building on the current developments in the fuel cell industry through collaborative efforts.
EU commissioner for science and research Janez Potocnik commented: "We can tackle technology bottle necks, raise public awareness and appreciation, address safety issues and develop standards that can ensure that technology developed in Europe is used not just here but around the world."
European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform (HFP) stated that the new organisation would provide a "unique opportunity" for the development of fuel cell technology, adding that as much as 5 billion (£3.37 billion) could be invested in the development of fuel cells over the next ten years.
