Fuel cell cars arrive in Britain 4th June 2007

Fuel cell cars will make their first appearance on the UK's roads this week as part of an effort to highlight World Environment Day.

Among the cars on show on Tuesday will be General Motors' Hydro Gen 3 and the vehicles will be driven in convoy from Brighton to London.

The 53-mile drive is designed to demonstrate the abilities of the various fuel cell and hybrid vehicles taking part and offers the UK the first glimpse of a fuel cell car on the road.

Although Transport for London has been operating three fuel cell-powered buses since January 2004, these have been the only fuel cell vehicles on Britain's roads and as such it is hoped the event on Tuesday will help to increase interest in the potential for fuel cell vehicles in the UK.

The Revolve Eco-Rally will also provide members of the public and celebrities at the event the opportunity to test out some of the environmentally-friendly vehicles taking part.
